Joyful Christmas news has just arrived from the Philippines! The women of the Morong 43 have been released from detention and the men are expected to be released imminently.
Two babies born in detention will now be free to be at the centre of family Christmas celebrations, as the other families also celebrate together after over 10 months of waiting.
The circumstances into which these babies have been born bears some resemblance to the circumstances into which Christ was born, in that his too was a time when military might threatened soul and community.
But as Christmas people, we know that the power of love and hope are greater than the power of hate and despair. Today we are vividly reminded that we have reason to hope for healing and wholeness for the people of the Philippines, and indeed for all God’s people of the earth.
